Week of March 11, 2019

Good Evening,

We are almost midway through March, time is flying!

On Friday, we have our first-grade class retreat. Mrs. Hallak has been working hard putting together a special day for our class. For our retreat the kids can wear jeans and a spirit shirt for the day. It is also a dress up in a St. Patrick’s shirt with jeans for $1 donation to Noah Homes. So, either spirit wear or the St. Patrick’s t-shirt is acceptable for the day. If you choose not to wear either of the dress up options, you must come dressed in the regular school uniform.

Also, on Friday the first-grade class will present the Stations of the Cross in the church at 9 am. We will sit in the first pews on the right side of the church (facing the altar). The kids will be in the first three pews and then you may sit in the pews right behind us. Please feel free to join us for the special occasion.

For those that signed up for the Talent Show, this Thursday is the auditions. Please check the time that you have signed up for.

If you haven’t sent in a copy of your child’s poem, please send it in as soon as possible. Whenever we have extra time in class, we have the kids get up and practice. We need the copy to guide them if they are stuck or making mistakes. Thank you!

Here is what else is going on in class this week!

·         Math- The students will be able to identify the difference between inches and centimeters. We will be measuring in centimeters throughout the week. Rule boxes will also be reviewed from our last unit. IXL E.2, E.4, P.9

·         Superkids- We are starting Unit 2 in our More Adventure of the Superkids. The memory words for this unit are their, now, always, because, and been. Pattern words are funny, funnier, funniest, sunny, sunnier, sunniest, happy, happier, happiest and angry, angrier, angriest.

·         Writing- We will complete four leaf clover writing of why we are lucky.

·         Religion- For the entire week our afternoons will focus on preparing for our Stations of the Cross. If your child is reading during stations, they will have to practice the reading INSTEAD of reading their Superkid mini book each night for homework.

·         Science- Our unit will begin by exploring shadows and what makes them move.

Don’t forget Sunday is daylight savings and we get to “Spring” forward.

See you bright and early on Monday morning!
