Week of August 22, 2022

What an incredible first week we have had!

Your children have been working so hard. There are so many new routines to learn in first grade and they are already stepping up to the challenge.

A huge thank you to all our wonderful tie dye volunteers. The class had so much fun, and we are all excited to see what we created.

Every Friday, in your child’s homework folder, there will be checked classwork from the week. Please remove the work from the folder. Also in the folder is their weekly homework/behavior chart that you have been signing nightly. Please return that paper every Monday. We use their behavior colors to add rewards on their treasure maps. If a planner is not returned, we won’t know how many signatures to give your child. Thanks!

Friday is our first all school dress up day. We will go to the church at 10:50, mass begins at 11. All students must come in their dress attire. Details are below and all guidelines for correct uniforms can be found on the school’s website.

Boys wear tan pants, white button-down collared shirt, STA tie, and vest.

Girls can wear their jumper with white button-down collared shirt or skort (plaid or tan) with the white button-down collared shirt with a vest.

All students must wear dress shoes for the day.

Please mark your calendars for STA’s Back to School Night. It will take place Thursday, September 15th beginning in the church 6 pm. We hope to see all our first-grade parents that night!

Below is what we will be learning in class this week.

Math- Last week we reviewed number bonds with the whole of 5. The students were illustrating, writing number bonds and equations for the total of 5. This week we will extend this practice to include the whole of 6, 7, 8, 9, and ten. We will also begin our morning review centers that will continually spiral back to math concepts learned over the course of the year.

English Language Arts- We are completing our SuperKids kindergarten review this week. We will review characters, stories, common nouns, proper nouns, quotations, and write our final draft about being a pirate. Our first spelling test will be this Friday. We will have weekly Friday spelling tests that consist of ten words. The words to study are below and they can also be found on the back of your homework/behavior planner each week. We suggest reviewing the words nightly until you feel they have mastered the words. This week’s spelling test words are review from kindergarten.

mop, big, cat, rug, tug, flat, dig, hop, nest, best

Religion- This week we will continue to prepare for our presentation of the first school wide characteristic, respect. Please feel free to attend Thursday morning’s assembly to watch our performance. We will also be going to the church, to prepare for Friday’s mass.

Social Studies- This week is all about the Pledge of Allegiance and its meaning.

Have a great weekend and we will see you Monday!
